Our book group has been meeting every month since June of '92, and since then we have enjoyed many wonderful books together. We are often inspired by looking up other groups' reading lists on the web, and have created this site in order to share our reading list with you, and hopefully even encourage some of you to start groups of your own. Book groups are great fun -- take our word for it.
The internet is a wonderful source of information for book lovers. We have included a links page to other reading groups on the web. Some of these offer their reading lists or information on how to start a discussion group. There are also some commercial links which we hope you will find helpful.
We meet monthly, and typically choose one book that we all read and discuss. Occasionally we choose a topic or theme and each member can choose one or more books from a short list that all share the theme.
For each meeting we prepare a dinner that goes along with the theme or setting of the book. For example, we had a Persian meal including jeweled rice and chicken kebob for Daughter of Persia, and enjoyed a meal with a South American flair for our discussion of House of the Spirits. We then discuss, over dinner, the books we read and how they pertained to that month's theme. It's quite delicious.
We were featured in the new Book Club Cookbook and have enjoyed reading about other group's activities and menus as well.
We hope you enjoy this site, and welcome
your reading recommendations. Please feel free to send us
to let us know what you are reading.
Happy reading from the
